Welcome!If you're a complete beginner
to amateur astronomy or
just fairly new and want to learn a bit more, then
this website
has been
designedjust
for you!
On the 40th Anniversary
of the Moon landings and the 400th Anniversary of the
invention of the astronomical telescope (made famous by Thomas
Harriot and Galileo
Galilei), 2009 was designated the International Year of
Astronomy and was tremendously successful in popularising this
hobby around the world.
We may be into a new year
now - our best wishes to you for 2010! - but let's not forget
what we as a community have achieved over the last 12 months. Indeed
with the new impetus, we foresee great things for the coming
year in the field of amateur astronomy, so please come and
enjoy it with us here at Simple
Amateur Astronomy!
As we are fond of saying, you don't need any
special qualifications to become involved, just a
curiosity about the Universe and the amazing things within it,
so let us be your guide.
Among other things, Simple
Amateur Astronomy will explain to
you;
How different telescopes work
and which job each type does best
How
to record your observations - photograph the planets
Our aim here is to explain in
a way that anyone can understand - It's a site for
amateur astronomers, written by amateur
astronomers!
Just
to make it even easier,
Simple
Amateur Astronomy includes a Glossary
of Terms so you can look up any word
or expression that's new to you. If you're still
confused, contact
us and we'll try to explain,
personally. We're sure you'll be 'over
the moon' with what we have to offer!
